Amazing sound resource ☆
I am working on the ambient sounds for a video. I have used Free Sound before but I am finding it especially helpful this time. I've gotten a ton of creative ideas. For instance, this soundtrack was particularly useful.
Here is some footage I shot at the Forgetters show in Brooklyn. My first time in the field with our new Canon 5D. Pretty amazing. AND Vimeo is now using HTML5 (but not in this post). Good day!

When I went home for my sister's wedding I talked to my brother about how he learned how to play guitar. I think there might be something there worth exploring.
This is a great resource for reading about and learning about documentarians and photographers and their work.
The other animal that people talk about in Austin.
#wowthatscoolhtml5 I missed this panel but I wish I could have gone. They showed some interesting things people are doing with HTML5 and video. Flash on the way out? In browser video editor? Greenscreening? Here's an example player
#waycool Adam Duvander talks about ways to make maps cooler. A bit much for me but it was interesting.
If a panel doesnt have a description chances are its not going to be worth going to it. What I took from Digital Producers and Disruptors: Ashton Kutcher has the most followers on Twitter. Didnt know that. Oh and Julianna Margulies is not on Twitter. #digitaldisruptors
During the Power Shift panel on Saturday they talked about this article in the New York Times by Charles Blow. It came out last July but I missed it. He has an interesting chart that outlines the increase and decrease in music sales by form (8 track, music single). According to Blow, people are moving …
#plutopia This performance was at Plutopia. Xiao He, he was pretty amazing.
In a panel with 2 librarians talking about the digital divide. #digitaldivide Presentation Slides Jessamyn West, a librarian in eastern Vermont, wants someone to develop an email system that only does five things. Without ads! It's nice to take a step back from the other panels and realize that SXSWi is really just talking to …
Has anyone used Flavors.me yet? SXSW just told me I should check it out. Here is an example of what your page might look like. You can have all your information in one place - twitter, facebook, netflix, goodreads, everything. It seems crazy to have all that information in one place but also really fascinating. …
Manor is a city next to Austin, TX. Most notably its where they filmed What's Eating Gilbert Grape. Manor has a really interesting system for citizens to submit ideas for programs, services, and other ways to improve city life called Manor Labs. I checked out some of the different ideas - its everything from ideas …

I'm listening to Ben Berkowitz talk about the service he created, See Click Fix, a site where citizens can report problems in their neighborhood. #cityisaplatform I wonder if this is more effective than calling 311.
You can't visit Austin without talking about bats. Mexican Free-tailed bats that is.

Not really part of SXSW but I went to this performance last night at the Austin Power Plant. Artist Ellen Fullman built a 100 foot long string instrument and played it for a small crowd. To read more check out this article
Words from Zack Klein, creator of Vimeo, in response to Steve James (Hoop Dreams, The Allen Iverson doc) discussing how viewership of feature-length documentaries is changing. Steve James laughed but it changed the course of the "What does historical documentary look like in a an interactive world" panel. Not much talk about history but a …
#iadoc The panel on Interactive Docs wasnt what I was expecting but interesting nonetheless. I think one of the comments from the audience sums it up - "interactive documentary seems like crowdsourcing content where the filmmaker retains control of the vision and curates." The audience has a chance to engage but not on the level …
